Tianjin Changlu Hangu Saltern Co., Ltd. traces its origins to the Lutai Saltern, established in 925 AD during the Later Tang Dynasty. With over 1,100 years of salt-making history, its products were praised during the Ming and Qing dynasties as “Lutai Jade Sand” for their crystal-clear appearance and pure taste, and were designated as royal tribute.
The Qing-era text Ancient and Modern Salt Affairs by Wang Koyu states: “In terms of salt quality, Guangxi is inferior to Zhejiang, Zhejiang to Huai, and Huai to Changlu.” Hangu Saltern lies at the heart of the Changlu salt region, widely regarded as China’s premium production area for high-quality sea salt.
As the nation’s first certified “No. 001” table salt producer, Hangu Saltern also holds the “China Time-Honored Brand” title. As a state-owned enterprise, it maintains rigorous quality standards and has earned the trust of consumers and the market.
In recent years, Hangu Saltern has pursued a strategy of “salt-based foundation with diversified, related growth.” While continuing to focus on traditional salt production, it has actively promoted industrial transformation. The company has invested in projects including the Beijiang Power Plant, Fubao Warehousing, and port facilities.
Hangu Saltern now operates six major business sectors in a coordinated manner:
· Salt and salt-based chemicals
This integrated approach reflects a successful transition to a high-quality development model that combines primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.
Amid a complex global economic environment, China‘s consumer market has demonstrated strong resilience. As AI, big data, and other technologies reshape the consumption landscape, Hangu Saltern stated that it will use this award as an opportunity to continue pursuing innovation-driven growth, preserve its 1,100-year salt-making heritage, and deliver high-quality products and services to support the high-quality development of China’s consumer industry.
