TIANJIN, Nov. 6, 2025 – Tianjin Changlu
Hangu Saltern, a millennium-old pillar of China’s sea salt industry, held a
grand celebration at its Tianjin Changlu Sea Salt Cultural Tourism Zone to mark
its 1100th anniversary.
The event gathered senior officials from
national and local governments, industry associations, academic and financial
institutions, key business partners, as well as reporters from mainstream media
at home and abroad.
Founded in 925 AD as Lutai Saltern, it has
evolved from a traditional coastal salt maker into a diversified modern
enterprise. Once a royal tribute salt supplier for the Ming and Qing dynasties,
it now runs integrated businesses covering sea salt production, salt chemical
engineering, ecological aquaculture, cultural tourism and new energy
development. As China’s first designated edible salt manufacturer (No. 001),
its flagship Luhua brand salt sells well worldwide, and its sea salt cultural
tourism zone sets a benchmark for industrial, ecological and cultural
integration.
The celebration opened with a vibrant
Feicha show, a local intangible cultural heritage rooted in ancient salt-making
traditions, showcasing the unique charm of sea salt culture.
Wang Yong, General Manager of Hangu
Saltern, reviewed the saltern’s millennium-long transformation in his speech
and thanked all partners for long-term support. He noted the anniversary marks
a fresh start to uphold craftsmanship and boost industrial innovation.
Gue
st speakers hailed the saltern as a
living fossil of China’s salt industry and a pioneer in upgrading traditional
industries, urging it to leverage its strengths to further drive the national
salt sector and regional economic growth.
During the event, the saltern launched new cultural tourism programs and premium products including ecological sea salt and ready-to-eat seafood, displaying its innovation in salt-tourism integration and high-value goods. It also held a photography award ceremony, unveiled an artists’ practice base, and signed cross-border cooperation deals with Saudi partners, laying a solid foundation for industrial collaboration and global expansion.
With a thousand-year heritage, Hangu
Saltern will continue to ensure stable edible salt supply, inherit time-honored
salt culture, advance industrial upgrading, and pursue high-quality sustainable
development while expanding its global footprint.
